The Best Things in Life are Free!

Last week I had a fantastic 2 days!

Why? well, about a few months ago I decided to give my time back. And so I went to Activ Foundation and set up an interview with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. So last week,  I dedicated 2 days to assisting with the Activ Foundation’s RAP program (Recreational Activities Program) for intellectually diasabled adults and I had the best time!

Although I had given my time before in other capacities, this was different… My experience with these adults gave me a refreshing perspective on being real.

I enjoyed my time thoroughly because I got to spend time with people who are completely authentic and real, with no agenda, and they see the world with such wonderment.

Giving my time in this way taught me to be present and in the moment. It was the best 2 days! I met some really awesome people. They had certain quirks and little habits that was just delightful. For example, I met a middle aged guy named Cory who had head phones in his ears and a bum bag around his waist, he spoke with a very gruff voice (like a adolescent boy who’s voice was breaking), he asked me “whats your name?” very loudly (because he was listening to 80’s music on his MP3) and I replied “Agnes” …he then yelled out on the bus “Agnes!!! YOU BET!!!” .And each time he did that he had a big smile on his face :)

I also, met a middle aged man named Peter who loved studying small batteries, each day he had a different battery that he could carry and read.  I also met sweet woman named Dierdre , who would say ”I like your hair” :) …she even sniffed it! and said she loves silky hair…and then said she likes everything!!!…. which I think is just fantastic!!

Being with them and experiencing life with them for those 2 days taught me the simplicity of life and that its true that the best things in life are free (my favourite Janet Jackson song). This experience just reinforced my values and how to be present in the moment and see the world in wonderment.

So you could say I lived a Wow two days!

Because of those two days I have decided to give my time once a month for 2 days to different organisations and institutions, such as kids with cancer, women’s refuge, homeless, under privileged children, the aged and more. To give my time is so much more personally rewarding than just donatng and giving money. Because my time is precious and its my time I have chosen to share!

This is a true example of Living Your WOW! Josh Dueck, a free skier was doing what he loved to do and at age 23 he had terrbile accident which severed his spinal cord that left him paralysed from the waist down. But yet because his passion, his dream, and his life is free ski-ing he found a way to live it again!! …..(I saw this short film last night at the Banff Mountain Film Festival)

Finding Magic in the Mundane!

Some of us consider parts of our life to be rather mundane. Like ground hog day if you like. And some of us think that grass is greener on the other side, but if we just took the time to discover the “essence” of what we are truly passionate about, what inspires us , what wows us, we can capture and experience those same elements in various aspects of our lives.

Take the most boring mundane daily activity that you do and now take time to think about every aspect of that activity and how it is performed….. what element or elements of what inspires in your life, can be found in that one activity? There is usually at least one elelment of your essence of wow there for you. Of course you can do this in all aspects, tasks and activities in your life and also with the people in your life.

I took this photo whilst having a causal coffee at a local funky coffee shop.  What wowed me about this was the reflection of the lanterns in the glass doors that projected into the street.
Just to take the time to look at things and life from a different perpective gives it new life.

The Basic Principles of Living Your Wow

The basic principles of living your wow requires you to engage in all of your senses :  smell, touch, sight, hearing, taste and the sense that we don’t often talk about is your intuitive sense. And most importantly its being in the present in the moment and having that feeling of aliveness!!!

Engaging in all of these senses makes your wow moment or experience more amazing, as you are experiencing life and engaging in activities that uplift and feed your soul!

Wow moments require you to be in the now. To be completely present for that moment.

To have a wow life you have to have wow moments!

How in the now of your wow will you be today?
